Donations

Why Donate?

The development process in cycling can be several years and requires significant resources. The biggest barrier for women in sport is the lack of available funding. SVCF was formed with the primary objective of raising money to support the development of women identified as potential top international athletes. Money raised by the Foundation is used to provide these women with the racing and training experience necessary to develop their potential. Support the future of women’s American cycling by making a donation today!!

Silicon Valley Cycling Foundation accepts both cash and stock gift donations, both tax deductible!

Making Stock Gifts to Silicon Valley Cycling Foundation

If you own stock it may be more tax-wise to contribute stock than cash. This is because a gift of appreciated stock generally provides you a two-fold tax advantage. First, you avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in the value of the stock. Second, you receive a federal income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock at the time of the trade.

For example, if you purchased some stock many years ago for only $1000.00 and now it is worth $10,000, an outright gift of this stock to SVCF would result in a charitable contribution deduction of $10,000. In addition, there would be no tax on the $9,000.00 appreciation in value. Make sure you owned the stock for a “long-term” period of time (generally meaning over one year) before donating to SVCF.

Gifts of appreciated stock are fully deductible up to a maximum of 30% of your adjusted gross income. For example, if your adjusted income for 2007 is $100,000, up to $30,000 of long term appreciated stock and other property gifts may be deducted in 2007. Any excess can generally be carried forward and deducted over as many as five subsequent years.
